China’s economy grew by 8.1% in 2021 after an abrupt slowdown in the second half that’s prompting options Beijing must shore up slumping progress
BEIJING — China’s economy grew by 8.1% in 2021 after an abrupt slowdown in the second half that’s prompting options Beijing must shore up slumping progress.
In the ultimate three months of 2021, the world’s second-largest economy expanded at a 4% annual tempo, authorities information confirmed Monday. That is down from the earlier quarter’s 4.9% and an eye-popping 18.3% in January-March.
Activity slumped beneath strain from Beijing on the true property trade, a key progress driver, to chop debt ranges that Chinese leaders fear are dangerously excessive.
That has prompted options Beijing might have to chop rates of interest or pump money into the economy via extra public works building.
